SUV terminators are more active than ever

Sport Utility Vehicles, or better known as SUVs, are vehicles that have gained the preference of consumers and car manufacturers around the world. But they have been targeted by a group of activists called the “Tyre Extinguishers”.

Environmental advocates started their actions in the United Kingdom, deflating SUV tires in upscale London neighborhoods, and have already emerged in New York (USA) and, recently, in Canada.

According to Tire Extinguishers, its activists managed to “disarm” 60 SUV models on the night of July 16, in Kitchener, Ontario (Canada), in their first foray.

Local police say the number is closer to 30 vehicles, according to information released by the website Autoevolution.

SUV owners reported finding their car with one or two (or even more) flat tires and a flyer on the windshield, informing you that your SUV lifestyle choice is playing a significant role in climate change and the eventual demise of our planet.

In a note, Tire Extinguishers says that “SUVs are more harmful to our climate than people can imagine. Since 2010, they have been the second biggest driver of rising global carbon dioxide emissions – more than the entire aviation industry”.

He adds: “We know that people will be frustrated, upset and/or very angry with us. Unfortunately, we don't have time to waste on reducing our emissions. People whose tires we deflate will be annoyed, but ultimately will be able to get around using public transport, walking or cycling, like many other residents of the Waterloo”.
