Tesla chief designer Franz von Holzhausen develops exclusive item pack for Tesla models priced up to $30,000
Although Tesla products in some markets formally belong to the premium segment, the build quality and interior design of these cars are clearly inferior to the products of most “veterans” in the market. Tesla's chief designer Franz von Holzhausen is ready to correct this omission, having developed an eco-leather analogue for electric vehicle interior trim using his personal company.
The high-tech material, as Electrek explains, is based on bamboo fiber, the fastest-recovering type of organic raw material, which accounts for 83% of the composition. The material with the symbolic name Banbu is not only similar in softness to sheepskin, but also weighs much less than cowhide, and for an electric car this is an important criterion. Customers will be able to choose from four material colors that can be combined in any combination. The Unplugged Performance studio, which has experience in this type of work, will directly reupholster the interior of electric vehicles.
The interior alteration of Tesla Model S, Model X, Model 3 and Model Y electric vehicles is estimated by company founder Franz von Holzhausen to be worth $29,995 and more, American customers can pre-order now, and the service European will only be available next year. In the future, the option will also appear for owners of the second generation Cybertruck and Roadster. As Tesla's chief designer is directly involved in developing the mass-produced electric vehicle interiors at his main workplace, his own company must handle adapting the luxury interior option without a hitch. Von Holzhausen's partner is his wife Vicki.
