Ascent: Japanese model is updated and still maintains the famous 2.4L boxer engine
Subaru is updating its full-size model lineup for 2023, and after the facelift of the Legacy and Outback, it's time for the Ascent. This full-size crossover offers space for seven or eight passengers, but now features refreshed styling and important technology updates. It all starts with a new oversized grille and horizontal strip, which can be chrome or black. Added to this are redesigned LED headlights, with 'L'-shaped daytime running lights and a sporty-looking bumper, also adopting renewed air intakes.
This is complemented with 'C'-shaped LED taillights and air ducts that improve aerodynamic flow. There are also new sets of wheels and the Onyx Edition version remains in effect, with black details on its body, black 20-inch wheels and exclusive emblems.
To top it off, the Subaru Ascent 2023 gets the latest EyeSight update, with features like blind spot detection, lane change assistant, rear cross traffic alert and automatic emergency steering. To complete, it incorporates a mono wide-angle camera.
This makes it possible to expand the system's field of view, making it easier to recognize pedestrians and bicycles at low-speed intersections. Together, the system helps to avoid a collision and works at speeds below 80 km/h. Added to this is the availability of a 360° surround-view monitor.
Inside, the most outstanding is the new 11.6-inch infotainment screen, standard across the range. It also features wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while elements such as navigation, power-adjustable seats and heated rear seat are available.
Under the hood continues the 2.4-liter turbocharged boxer engine, which delivers 260 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and a torque of 375 Nm from 2,000 rpm.
It appears coupled to a Lineartronic CVT transmission with shift paddles and manual mode that simulates 8 speeds. And of course, the famous Symmetrical AWD all-wheel drive could not be missing.
With these changes, the Subaru Ascent 2023 sports a more modern look, in line with what we've already seen in the revamped Forester. This model will hit US dealers in the fourth quarter of 2022 and will be available in Base, Premium, Onyx Edition, Limited and Touring versions.
