CUPRA Terramar: the new SUV that will arrive in 2024
The Volkswagen Group's plans for the young CUPRA brand are ambitious. The company will expand its product portfolio and will completely separate itself from SEAT, with its own cars of the desirable type and prices higher than those of the Spanish brand. One of them will be the new CUPRA Terramar, an SUV that will arrive in 2024 (pictured above) and will replace the current CUPRA Ateca.
Although the new CUPRA Ateca was recently unveiled, now the new Spanish brand has offered some interesting Terramar details, although there isn't much graphic material to fully appreciate it. That's because the new crossover will only be ready to go on sale in at least a year and a half from now, as it is expected to land on the market in 2024.
The new CUPRA Terramar will be the last model of the brand with an internal combustion propulsion system. Specifically, it will be a plug-in hybrid that will have around 100 kilometers of autonomy in electric mode. It will measure around 4.5 meters in length, a figure very similar to that of the Audi Q3, with which it will share many of its characteristics and the factory where it will be assembled, located in Hungary. This means that it will also be longer than the CUPRA Formentor and the Ateca.
It will be based on a modified version of the MQB platform, which is intended to be the basis of the Volkswagen Group's next generation of plug-in hybrid vehicles. As a curiosity for those who don't know, CUPRA Terramar takes its name from the mythical Autódromo de Terramar from 1923, located in a municipality near Barcelona, Spain.
“Our new sports hybrid SUV seamlessly blends bold proportions with a long, striking hood, while the shark nose signifies revolutionary endurance and a determination to win,” said Jorge Diez, CUPRA Design Director. “Considering how the driver will feel, we provide a unique experience with the latest technology, thanks to the driver-oriented interior concept”, he concluded.
The new CUPRA Terramar was seen alongside the newly unveiled CUPRA UrbanRebel and a fresh take on the production version of the CUPRA Tavascan.
