PIRELLI
Brand presents new line of Elect tires for electrified cars
Since 2019, Pirelli has a tire range entirely dedicated to electrified cars, whether electric or plug-in hybrids. They are called Elect, they are specially designed for battery-powered cars and guarantee high performance (compared to the standard tires we would mount on an endothermic car) both in terms of acceleration and speed and, above all, efficiency.
Over the months, more and more manufacturers choose the Elect as original equipment for their models, with this technology that, until now, has been integrated into the P Zero, Cinturato and Scorpion lines in the summer and all season versions. Winter. As for the latter, it can now be fitted to 65% of premium models and, in addition, it is currently the most chosen technology for Scorpion, the tire family dedicated to SUVs and crossovers and among the most widespread on the market (also our Land Rover Discovery, our crew car, assembles them).
Elect's characteristics... With the spread of electrified cars, it was necessary to think of a new type of tire: the tires must have a tread with a specific design to optimize smoothness and reduce consumption, to be able to deal with high values of power and torque, bear the extra weight of battery-powered cars and not be too noisy. All while maintaining a degree of non-excessive wear that allows users to complete a tire life cycle of approximately 35,000 kilometers without problems.
If the name is not new to you, it is because in the super mileage test of electric cars published on InsideEVs.it we had the opportunity to test the new PZero Elect in a Porsche Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo, obtaining excellent efficiency results.
Pirelli has also expanded the range of collaborations with car manufacturers, with the Elect becoming increasingly popular as an original equipment tire on electric and plug-in hybrid models: in 2021, it registered over 250 homologations, double that of 2020, enough to capture the biggest share of the market for specific tires for battery-powered cars.
