FERRARI
Italian company will bet on hybrids for now
Last week, Ferrari executives talked about how the legendary Italian brand will develop business in the transition to electric drive. The latter, as can be judged by the company's plans, is not as undisputed as some competitors try to present. Until at least 2030, Ferrari will retain up to 40% of the hybrids in its lineup, although their peak is 2025, when they could take up to 55% of sales.
According to Reuters, by the middle of the decade, electric cars will account for up to 5% of Ferrari's sales, albeit only due to the first and only model that will exist so far. But by the end of the decade, the share of electric vehicles will grow to 40%. Hydrides have a special place, already last year they accounted for 20% of sales and by the end of the decade their share will not fall below 40%.
It is easy to determine that cars with internal combustion engines, even in 2030, will represent up to 20% of Ferrari sales, although it is not certain that in the next decade they will use the usual gasoline as fuel. Like rival Lamborghini, Ferrari is betting on eco-friendly specialty synthetic fuels that will allow owners of powerful sports cars to run internal combustion engines without causing great harm to the environment.
In fact, the Purosangue crossover (from the Italian “thoroughbred”) presented in September this year will be equipped with a 12-cylinder internal combustion engine, although in the future Ferrari will allocate enough resources to develop its own traction motors, inverters and even batteries. The company is currently collaborating with four battery suppliers to develop advanced batteries, including those that use solid-state electrolyte. What Ferrari will definitely not do is develop its own operating system – this can be entrusted to third-party companies. In the period from 2023 to 2026, the Italian brand intends to present 15 new models, among them there will be at least one electric car.
