DE TOMASO
Last weekend, a super sports car of the P72 brand was presented at the Concorso D'Eleganza Villa D'Este
Exactly 60 years after the founding of the De Tomaso brand and 15 years after its demise, the car manufacturer has announced its return with the spectacular De Tomaso P72, unveiled at the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed. At the time it was a prototype super sports car, equipped with a powerful 5.0-liter V8 supercharged by compressor, of Ford origin and prepared by Roush, with an output of more than 700 hp, a torque of 825 Nm and a manual transmission.
Since then, we have been waiting three years for the definitive production version, as the brand announced that 72 street copies would be produced, in limited edition, with a price of 750,000 euros each.
Perhaps to live up to expectations and to remind you that the project is still ongoing, De Tomaso showed last weekend its striking P72 at the Concorso D'Eleganza Villa D'Este, celebrated on the shores of Lake Como, in northern Italy.
The car was a striking pale blue color, so we're guessing it's the same unit that for the past few years has been touring US beauty pageants like the one on Amelia Island. The still and dynamic photographs of the P72 on the shores of Lake Como are the work of Freddie Atkins.
The example combines this blue color with a white interior and leather upholstery, with decorative aluminum frames and a handle for the gearshift lever also finished in aluminum and with the same diamond-style design pattern.
In principle, De Tomaso plans to manufacture the P72 and other future models at facilities in the United States, but problems arising from the pandemic have forced the company to look elsewhere for production.
Finally, the brand will be installed in a new plant in Germany, and will have a test center close to the Nürburgring. The first units of the De Tomaso P72 are expected to start being delivered to customers during the next year 2023.
