Hungarian government announces measures to contain the rise in fuel prices
“It is very important to dimension the measures. It is not the same to support those with huge incomes and those with below-average wages,” said Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic. The idea is already being worked on by the competent ministry and, when the time comes, they will also present this solution.
Fuel vouchers will likely work in the same way as energy vouchers. On April 1, the government increased the amount of existing power vouchers that can be used for gas and electricity from 200 kunas to 400 kunas (just over 10,000 forints) and increased the number of potential users from 20,000 to 82 thousand.
Those in need must submit their application to the social centers, which will process it. After receiving the order, they can apply to the Instituto de Finanças Públicas (FINA) for reimbursement with the paid overhead account.
In Croatia, tariffs on petroleum products have not been maximized in the recent past. Zagreb instead fixed trade margins and temporarily reduced excise duties on gasoline and diesel. However, prices have been increasing every week.
The cabinet therefore decided last week to fix the retail price of fuel for two weeks, with the exception of fuel sold on highways. The regulation applies to 95 octane gasoline as well as diesel, with premium fuels remaining free everywhere. The price of eurosuper 95 was set by the cabinet at 13.50 kunas (710.37 forints) and euro diesel at 13.08 kunas (688.27).
