Scenic Vision is a hydrogen-electric hybrid power plant

Renault announced details of the Renault Scenic Vision concept car equipped with a hydrogen-electric hybrid power plant during the ChangeNOW summit in Paris. The new concept has standard dimensions (4.49 m long and 1.9 m wide), weight - 1700 kg and is made in the body of a crossover. In addition, according to the company, the new model will be made with 70% recycled materials.

The concept is powered by a 160 kW (218 hp) electric motor powered by a 40 kWh battery. There is also a hydrogen cylinder (about 2.5 kg) and 16 kW hydrogen fuel cells. According to the company, it will only take 5 minutes to fill the cylinder with hydrogen. Renault called this system H2-Tech.

Renault also said the 40 kWh Scenic Vision battery is recyclable and will be produced at a factory in France in 2024. In the same year, the company will launch mass production of an all-electric version of the Scenic Vision based on the Renault-Universal platform. Nissan CMF-EV, and the launch of a crossover at a hydrogen power plant should not be expected. before 2030-2032. The company said the hydroelectric plant is part of its long-term plans beyond 2030.

It is assumed that in most cases the Renault Scenic Vision Concept will be used as an electric car: the battery capacity is sufficient for daily trips around the city and for short-distance trips. If you need to travel a long distance, hydrogen elements are used. According to the manufacturer, the range of the Renault Scenic Vision will be 750-800 km (with a full battery charge and a full hydrogen tank).

The idea is that the Scenic Vision's hydrogen fuel cell will help extend the car's range during long journeys. “In 2030 and beyond, when the network of hydrogen stations is large enough, you will be able to drive up to 800 km without stopping to recharge the battery,” said Renault.

In practice, there are already examples of combining an electric motor and hydrogen cells in a vehicle. These are usually commercial vehicles for specific uses. However, the Renault Scenic Vision Concept is a very versatile car for a wide range of customers. Whether it will be put into mass production, time will tell.
