Brand is notified by NHTSA to recall 1,117 vehicles due to wiring problems
The US Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) notified electric vehicle maker Lucid Motors on Wednesday to recall 1,117 vehicles due to display wiring issues.
According to the regulator's report, the display wiring harness may not be connected properly, which can lead to its failure. Consequently, these vehicles do not comply with Section 101, Controls and Displays, of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
As Air displays provide the driver with important information, including speed, mileage, shift indicators and warning systems, this defect can lead to an accident. According to Lucid Insiders, the company changed the glass top of new cars to avoid potential problems due to loose wires.
The recall applies to all Air Dream Edition and Grand Touring models launched in 2022. The distribution of the notices is scheduled for June 20th. NHTSA said Lucid dealers will inspect the vehicles and repair the wiring harness free of charge if needed. This will be the second vehicle recall in the company's short history. The first recall, announced in February 2022, was related to a defect in the suspension.
Earlier this week, Lucid held a signing ceremony for a February 2022 agreement with organizations in Saudi Arabia to build a factory in the country with a production capacity of 155,000 electric vehicles a year. As part of the deal, Lucid is expected to receive $3.4 billion in funding over the next 15 years.
