Branded cars will use autonomous technology to help you avoid speeding tickets by slowing down on your own

In the not-too-distant future, your car could help you avoid speeding tickets by slowing down on your own. Ford is currently testing technology that automatically matches vehicle speeds to speeds on a given stretch of road, all without reading signals or receiving any input from the driver.

The technology is called Geofencing Speed Limit Control and requires multiple systems to function.

Of course, this requires a vehicle with advanced connection systems and some level of driver assistance. From there, special software is connected to the GPS tracking system. Theoretically, information about speed limits on certain sections is sent to the vehicle. As soon as the car enters a certain zone, the speed is automatically set according to the limit. Unlike some vehicles that can read traffic signs and adjust speed, the Ford system relies on a defined virtual zone and GPS vehicle positioning.

The system is currently being tested in Cologne, Germany. Ford software engineers, the Ford City Engagement team and city officials in Cologne and Aachen teamed up to test the system, which is being tested in two E-Transit vans. When approaching a speed zone, the driver is notified on the dashboard and the software adjusts the speed as needed. The driver has the ability to overwrite the system at any time, and future versions may also allow drivers to define their own zones in certain areas. Technology can also evolve to include factors such as time of day and construction zones.

“Connected vehicle technologies have a proven potential to make everyday driving easier and safer for everyone, not just the person behind the wheel,” said Michael Huehn, Germany City Relations Manager, Ford of Europe. "Geofencing can provide speed reduction where it's needed and even when it's needed to improve security and create a more pleasant environment."

Not long ago, our publication wrote that the new 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor SUV will receive a 418 horsepower engine. This statement was made by the company's CEO, Jim Farley. According to him, the new SUV will be more powerful than initially thought.
