AUTONEWS

Independent designer Dejan Hristov recreates the iconic Citroën 2CV

Despite its glorious history, Citroën seems to have a negative view of the retro trend promoted by electric vehicles, including the VW ID. Buzz, Fiat 500 and Honda e.

However, that hasn't stopped independent designer Dejan Hristov from hinting at a reincarnation of the iconic Citroën 2CV that could return as an electric crossover with a minimalist design.

Hristov acknowledges that the 2CV inspired many young designers, but says most were afraid to stay true to the original. Instead of trying to reinvent the wheel, the designer kept the iconic silhouette of the original 2CV (1948-1990), including the rounded roofline, pronounced fenders and distinctive hood.

Dimmed LED headlights, minimalist grille, beautifully sculpted bodywork, mirror replacement cameras and ample taillights make the 2CV as modern as possible. And instead of the usual supermini hatchback, the designer chose an elevated crossover look.

This was achieved with larger diameter alloy wheels and more off-road tires, as well as increased ground clearance. The plastic coating is limited to the underside of the bumpers and side sills. Staying true to the essence of the original, much of the roof is retracted for outdoor riding.

What is really different from the 2CV era is the equipment, as modern buyers cannot live with manual windows and no air conditioning. Thus, the five-seat interior of the 2CV EV will have all the necessary amenities, including a multimedia touchscreen, climate control, power windows and a complete audio system.

The new 2CV EV has grown by 381 mm from the original, reaching a length of 4241 mm. This will bring it in line with modern B-SUVs such as the Peugeot 2008, which is 4,300mm long. With these dimensions, the 2CV electric car can be based on the Stellaantis STLA Small platform.
