Automaker suspends production of Megane E-Tech
Renault suspended production of the Megane E-Tech Electric between April 14 and 25, according to Automotive News sources. The reason is that the already strained supply of components has been further exacerbated by the shutdowns in China, caused by the country's worst corona outbreak to date.
“The semiconductor crisis, compounded by shutdown measures in several regions of China, is putting pressure on the availability of parts for Megane E-Tech, especially battery components,” the company wrote in an email to the newspaper.
For Swedish customers, this means delivery times are provisionally pushed back until August or September of this year, says Renault's Swedish press department to ams. Previously, it was expected to be able to deliver the first cars as early as June.
The shutdowns in China also affected other brands. Both Volkswagen and Tesla have been forced to stop their production bands in recent weeks.
The Megane E-Tech was launched earlier this year as the brand's second electric car, after the small car Zoe. It is being built at a factory in Douai, France, where, among other things, the Talisman was previously built, but which has now been adapted for the production of electric cars.
The sister model Nissan Ariya was also recently delayed for a second time. Like Renault, Nissan blamed the delay on a semiconductor failure.
