One of Chevrolet's most iconic vehicles is about to get a new look. General Motors has confirmed its intention to launch an electrified version of the Corvette (obviously a hybrid) in 2023, as well as an all-electric version sometime later. The corresponding message was posted on the automaker's Twitter account.
More detailed information about the future Corvette has not been released, so we can only guess at what exactly the developers are preparing. It can already be said that this step is important for Chevrolet, as the Corvette has become a true symbol of American sports cars with an internal combustion engine during its existence.
It should be noted that the announcement of electrified versions of the Corvette is not surprising, as General Motors previously spoke of its intention to move to production of exclusively electric vehicles by 2035. Until now, the group's electrification strategy has been mainly linked to to vehicles of other brands such as Hummer. It is possible that the appearance of the electric Corvette will cause outrage among fans of the classic gasoline version of the sports coupe, but at the same time it will also attract the attention of fans of electric sports cars.
Note that GM's current efforts to electrify programming cover almost every segment. This includes the next-generation Silverado electric pickup, the luxurious Cadillac Lyriq, and the upcoming Blazer and Equinox. In this light, the Corvette's rejection of the internal combustion engine was only a matter of time.
