SCANIA
Scania presented a new model of gas truck. This is the P 280 4x2 intended for residential waste collection. The model uses the 9-liter Otto-cycle OC9 engine, with five cylinders in line. It develops 280 horsepower at 1,900 rpm and a robust 142.8 mkgf of maximum torque between 1,000 rpm and 1,400 rpm.
It is worth mentioning that the OC13 engine was not adapted. That is, it was created on the basis of the Otto cycle. In that sense, it has the same spark plugs as gasoline engines. Thus, the pre-mixing of the fuel takes place before it enters the cylinders. Either way, it's a cleaner, quieter engine. Therefore, directed to act in residential neighborhoods.
Two other differences from the gas truck are the air suspension on the rear axle and the automated box. The air suspension brings more comfort to the driver and occupants. It also helps to reduce fuel consumption and maintenance cost.
Likewise, the automated gearbox also brings more efficiency to the operation, as well as comfort to the driver. This is the 12-speed Scania Opticruise calibrated to meet service demand. The P cabin, despite being smaller in relation to the G and R sisters, still stands out for being the largest in the segment. Thus, it offers more internal space and comfort.
Virtuous cycle...Within the activity for which it is intended, the new P 280 truck can also transport the garbage that generates biomethane. Landfills produce methane, which can become biogas. However, most of the time, the methane is burned and lost.
In any case, it is worth noting that Scania has already sold more than 600 gas trucks. Just as it recently sold the first vehicles powered by 100% LNG (liquefied natural gas) to Morada Logística (SP).Scania gas range: safe and viable...Scania trucks powered by gas (CNG or biomethane) are designed for medium and long distances. Its engines have the technology to meet the requirements of Proconve phase P8 or Euro 6, a standard that will come into force from January 2023. In addition to the P 280 4x2, are there versions with 340 hp and 410 hp engines? the latter, sales leader in the gas line. In addition, Scania has already demonstrated its gas-powered bus, the urban model K 280 4x2.
