Intelli-Lux LED Pixel Adaptive, the brand's new smart lighting system
The new Opel Astra is not only electrified for the first time, but also continues to bring cutting-edge technologies to the compact class, elements that customers previously only knew in more expensive cars. A real highlight that combines emotion-packed design with maximum practicality is the latest generation of Intelli-Lux LED Pixel Adaptive Lighting.
The system - which is adopted from Opel's Insignia and Grandland flagships - is unique in the compact class and features 168 continuously reacting LED elements (84 per headlight), which ensure that the light output is adapted with great precision to the existing driving conditions, without dazzling other road users.
“Drivers of the new Opel Astra enjoy the best night vision through Intelli-Lux LED Pixel lighting,” said Ingolf Schneider, Director of Lighting Technology. “This is engineering of the highest precision, produced in Germany and accessible to everyone”.
Premium lighting in the compact class: Intelli-Lux LED Pixel with three-row array...Astra's stylish new headlights are comprised of a three-row array with streaming functions:
- For the closest area, a long row of pixels continuously adapts the light focus to each curve.
- A second row of finely defined, equally fast-reacting pixels ensures optimal reach in the boundary zone where light and dark meet.
- The effective function of the matrix is to cut, with great precision and in milliseconds, the light beam around the preceding traffic and that circulates in the opposite direction, through the central and upper rows of pixels. The remaining areas continue to be fully lit. This means that the Astra driver always has lighting as bright as daylight, without dazzling other traffic. The system allows the driver to identify objects - such as signs or animals on the side of the road - at a distance that was previously in darkness, thus allowing them to react faster and sooner.
Design and technology in one: Opel Vizor as a technology platform...The Astra's new IntelliLux LED Pixel headlamps, together with LED daytime running lights and turn signals, are integrated into the Opel Vizor. The brand's unprecedented face thus becomes a technological platform, as well as a powerful design element.
In its latest generation, the best seller Astra extends its long-standing history of making innovative elements accessible to many customers, both in the five-door hatchback version and in the Astra Sports Tourer station wagon. The previous generation of Astra (voted 'European Car Of The Year 2016') had also brought the pioneering Intelli-Lux LED Matrix lighting technology to the compact class in 2015.
