MERCEDES-BENZ

PRIMEIRO MERCEDES-BENZ eACTROS É ENTREGUE À DACHSER E ENTRARÁ EM OPERAÇÃO NA ALEMANHA

The brand's first battery-powered series production electric truck was delivered to logistics company DACHSER

One of the first eActros, Mercedes-Benz's first battery-powered electric truck in series production, has been delivered to the logistics services company DACHSER. Karin Radström, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Trucks, personally delivered an eActros 300 to Stefan Hohm, Chief Development Officer (CDO) and member of the Board of Management of DACHSER, during a customer meeting in Wörth am Rhein.

DACHSER is already planning to include additional eActros in its vehicle fleet as part of its climate protection strategy. “The series production eActros is an important component of our 'DACHSER Emission-Free Delivery' urban delivery concept, which we are currently expanding to eleven European metropolitan regions,” explains Stefan Hohm on the occasion of the delivery. of the first vehicle, which will replace the prototype that has been in practical testing at DACHSER in Stuttgart since 2019. “eActros has demonstrated its value on a day-to-day basis in Stuttgart, especially when it comes to emission-free deliveries of goods on pallets to customers. We also see some potential in regular haulage systems for the all-electric truck. We believe the vehicle will find a wide range of applications in sustainable cargo logistics.”

In Stuttgart, DACHSER delivers general cargo with eActros to its customers in the city center, especially in the case of palletized shipments that are too large and heavy to ship as parcel shipments. In addition, the electric truck, in conjunction with a 7.5-tonne FUSO eCanter, supplies a small downtown logistics center with shipments, which are then distributed along the last mile with electric-supported cargo bikes. All general cargo shipments within a defined area (DACHSER Emission-Free Delivery) are delivered by DACHSER free of local CO2 and nitrogen oxide emissions. The eActros is only charged with green electricity at the DACHSER branch in Kornwestheim.

For the application, the e-truck was configured with a 4x2 traction formula and a SPIER trunk body. The 19-ton truck was produced last year after series production began and has now been officially delivered at a meeting following federal funding approval. DACHSER is one of the selected customers who gained valuable experience with the eActros prototype at an early stage.

Karin Radström, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler Truck Holding AG, responsible for the Europe and Latin America regions and the Mercedes-Benz Truck brand: “We are very proud that an innovative logistics provider like DACHSER has chosen eActros and is demonstrating trust us by ordering various vehicles, including our comprehensive services. DACHSER has been a key partner during the development of the eActros, from prototype to series production vehicle, and we look forward to continuing our strong partnership with DACHSER towards zero-emission transport.”

Range of up to 400 kilometers...The batteries in the eActros can consist of three (eActros 300) or four batteries (eActros 400), each with an installed capacity of 112 kWh and a useful capacity of around 97 kWh. Equipped with four batteries, the eActros 400 has a range of up to 400 kilometers. The technological heart of the electric truck is its propulsion unit, which consists of a rigid electric axle with two integrated electric motors and a two-speed transmission. The two liquid-cooled motors provide a continuous power of 330 kW and a maximum power of 400 kW. In addition, electrical energy can be recovered through recovery while driving with predictability. The energy recovered by braking is fed back into the eActros batteries and is again available to power the vehicle. The eActros can be charged up to 160 kW. In a conventional DC fast charging station with a charging current of 400A, the three batteries take just over an hour to recharge from 20% capacity to 80%.

Advantages of Mercedes-Benz Battery Powered Truck...The two integrated electric motors are highly efficient and provide constant power with high starting torque. The torque provided immediately by the electric motors and the two-speed transmission ensure powerful acceleration, impressive driving comfort and driving dynamics that allow for a smoother and less stressful drive than a conventional diesel-powered truck. Plus, the low center of gravity helps with cornering. The internal noise level has been reduced by 10 Db - corresponding to approximately half of the perceived noise level - which also contributes to increased driver comfort at full load operation. Night deliveries are also possible thanks to the low noise level. In contrast to a diesel truck, there is also considerably less vibration.
