The Cup Car Basic version of the BRZ has been adapted for competition
The new Subaru BRZ will not reach every country on the globe. However, markets such as the United States and Japan will be able to enjoy the sports coupe, even in the country of the rising sun there will be a version designed specifically for competition. This is the new Subaru BRZ Cup Car Basic.
The Cup Car Basic version of the BRZ is designed to compete in a new series of races. The model is a basic vehicle with a series of features that make it ideal for participating in a new single-brand cup. It will be the Toyota Gazoo Racing GR 86/BRZ Cup series of races, scheduled to start this year 2022. The first of the five races that will form the championship will take place on July 16 and 17 at the Japanese circuit Fuji Speedway.
Compared to the Subaru BRZ Cup Car Basic, the vehicle comes standard with 16-inch steel wheels in black. The bodywork can be specified in seven different liveries: WR Blue Pearl, Ignition Red, Sapphire Blue Pearl, Crystal White Pearl, Ice Silver Metallic, Magnetite Gray Metallic and Crystal Black Silica.
But the most important changes take place in the cabin. Subaru installed a santoantonio(next image), a six-point seat belt on the driver's side and special floor mats, in addition to removing the side curtain airbags to reduce weight.
Under the hood, the 2.4-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder boxer engine is unchanged. It continues to deliver 235 horsepower and 250 Nm of maximum torque that are sent to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The latter includes fins to improve its cooling and the engine includes a new oil cooler.
The new BRZ Cup Car Basic is designed so that teams can modify it by adding everything needed to compete, although it already includes some basic elements. The model is exclusively available to Japanese customers and is priced at 3,338,500 yen.
