PEUGEOT
Model Prométhée Concept from the year 2000 already anticipated the Peugeot 307
The Peugeot 308, one of the most well-known and consolidated compacts on the market, recently debuted a new generation, which includes a plug-in hybrid version, and in the future it will also offer an all-electric version.
In any case, an important step towards the model we know today was taken by the French brand more than 20 years ago, when it presented the Peugeot Prométhée Concept, a prototype that anticipated the successor to the successful Peugeot 306.
The concept shown in the images was presented at the 2000 Paris Motor Show and was conceived as a showcase of what was to come at the lion brand. A year later, a production car very similar in appearance was born, the Peugeot 307.
The bodywork of this prototype combined the style of a compact with features of a minivan and even crossover, with a mix of unique solutions, such as a windshield that extended almost to the central part of the vehicle's roof, and side panels inspired by the Peugeot 402. 'Canadian'.
This Prométhée had two doors on the passenger side and a single sliding door on the driver's side, a solution that would be adopted a few years later by the failed Peugeot 1007. In the case of the concept, all the doors were electrically operated and could be opened remote way.The Prométhée's rear was probably the least conventional part of its design, so the more conventionally styled front was pretty much the only thing that finally made it to the production Peugeot 307, at least in terms of the exterior.
The cabin, of generous dimensions, offered space for four occupants, and had an analogue instrument panel and a small screen at the top of the panel. In general, the look of the interior was transferred quite faithfully to the street model. The prototype also had an automatic climate control, CD player and two screens for the rear occupants.Under the hood of the Prométhée, the French brand mounted a 2.0 HDi, diesel and 4-cylinder engine, with 90 hp of power, enough to move a prototype that weighed less than 900 kg and measured only 4.18 meters in length, far from the 308, which reaches up to 4.37 meters and weighs about 1.4 tons.
