Ford spokesperson confirms end of production of the Ford GT
The Chicago Motor Show 2022 has opened its doors. This important event for the North American auto industry returns after an absence marked by the health crisis. There are numerous manufacturers gathered to present novelties especially destined for the American territory. Ford was one of the companies that were present.
An important part of the protagonism fell on the new Ford Bronco as well as on the bet that the iconic blue oval brand is making in the electrification territory. However, the celebration of this event brings to light a very important information about the more immediate future of one of the flagships signed by Ford Performance. We're talking about the Ford GT.
Jiyan Cadiz, a Ford spokeswoman, confirmed that production of the Ford GT will end soon. In little more than half a year, the end of the manufacturing process for the second generation of the Ford GT will be put to an end. The departure of this model will mean, in turn, the conclusion of an era. The future inevitably passes through electrification and this directly affects the elitist segment in which the model militates.
In Cadiz's statements, the 1,100th copy of the Ford GT has recently rolled off the assembly line. Therefore, there are approximately 250 units left to be manufactured so that the scheduled production for this generation ends. The spokesperson for the brand also highlighted that Multimatic, the Canadian company in charge of manufacturing the Ford GT, will have finished production next December.
A few days ago, Ford presented the Alan Mann Heritage Edition GT, the seventh Heritage Edition unit with which it celebrates the key role that Alan Mann Racing played in the development of lightweight versions of the Ford model. In addition, this specific unit also pays homage to the prototypes created by Ford in 1964.
The second generation of the Ford GT came on the scene in 2015 within the scope of the Detroit Auto Show. A year later, in 2016, it started its series production process. This icon of Ford's sports division is powered by a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 petrol engine that develops power in excess of 650 hp. A block coupled to a 7-speed dual-clutch Powershift automatic transmission. Power is sent to the rear axle.
