Spanish consortium wants to make a 100% electric pickup truck named Ebro a reality
Spain is not precisely a country of pick-ups, a type of vehicle that is very popular in other regions, such as the United States and Australia. However, there is a project underway to produce the Ebro, a 100% electric and Spanish pick-up.
Ebro is the name of one of the main rivers of the Iberian Peninsula. But also the name of a brand of industrial vehicles born in 1954, created by Motor Ibérica, and which manufactured buses, trucks and vans, among others. This brand was once very important, but disappeared in the 80s, like so many other companies.
Now, Ecopower, along with other companies such as QEV Technologies, BTECH and Ronn Motor Group, are working to make this Spanish electric pick-up project a reality.
To bring this project to life, the participating companies will use Nissan's facilities in the Free Zone of Barcelona and will build on the Nissan Navara platform. In this way, they will create a complete line of all-terrain vehicles and all of them powered by an electric system.
The project already had a preliminary basis, through a car sponsored by the Spanish construction company Acciona and which managed to finish a Dakar Rally, a result that gives strength to this idea. The work team is made up of companies such as QEV Technologies, BTECH and Ronn Motor Group, in addition to Ecopower itself, and an investment of 1 billion euros was carried out, divided into five years.
As the CEO of QEV Technologies, Joan Orús, points out, “our objective is to enhance sustainable mobility in an integral way, a sector where we are an internationally recognized actor, but now seeking the industrialization of vehicles to profoundly transform the new mobility, as well as urban transport. and last-mile logistics.”
On the other hand, this initiative will mean the creation of 4,000 direct jobs, plus another 10,000 indirect ones. In addition, the project does not only include the creation of the Ebro pick-up, but also industrial vehicles, small trucks and buses measuring 8 and 12 meters in length.
For now, there is not much information about it and we will have to wait a few months to find out more details about this interesting 100% Spanish electric mobility project.
