Porsche 911: a classic but electrified
One of the latest trends in the resmotod world is to have electric motors as protagonists, a very controversial topic that is making purists angry. However, renew or die, as the saying goes, especially now that regulations tighten and classic cars will not escape restrictions and who knows, they may even be banned from driving due to their pollution.
Installing electric motors in classic cars is having a lot of repercussion, opening the door to a market with enormous potential and with a future that could be very promising. So much so that even brands like General Motors are researching and developing their own electric motors for classic cars.
On this occasion it is not an American car, but a German model transformed by a Dutch company, specializing in electric vehicle conversions. The car chosen was a Porsche 911 from the late 70s, which abandons its ‘old’ combustion engine for a more modern and electric one.
Taking the Porsche 911 Carrera RS from the late 1970s as inspiration, the Dutch Voitures Extravert created an electric 911 in which they mounted an engine called the ssenza 700. It is an in-house development that stands out for its high torque delivery. The number that appears in the name refers to the 700 Nm of torque it is capable of delivering. In addition, it is also water cooled. The power is 304 hp.
According to the company, it is their most powerful engine to date, with 20% additional power over the strongest engine they had on offer so far. The performance is not bad at all, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 6 seconds and reaching a range of 400 kilometers thanks to a 59 kWh battery equipped with quick charge, with which you can get 100 kilometers of charge in just 15 minutes.
The weight, as expected, amounts to almost 1,400 kilos, so along with the power gain, other parts are improved. The brakes are new and larger, while the suspension is now a magneto-rheological set with electronic and adaptive management.
Each model takes nine months to complete, as in addition to removing the combustion engine and installing the entire electric powertrain, the entire vehicle is also restored and reconditioned. Everything is done by hand and according to the customer's specifications. Pricing has not been announced, but being tailor-made cars, with a deep restoration and all new electric drive system, they won't be precisely cheap models.
