RENAULT
Brand will have its entire fleet electrified by 2030
We have been seeing for a long time how the vast majority of generalist brands, especially European ones, have already set a date for the end of the sale of combustion models. A transformation into 100% electric brands that comes before the entry into force of the new and strict European standard that will ban the sale of combustion vehicles from 2035.
That's why after seeing companies like Ford, Peugeot, Fiat and Cupra announce their intention to bet everything on electric with the arrival of the next decade, some like Opel and Alfa Romeo even before, now Renault has also confirmed that it will follow this wave by converting it. into a 100% electric brand by 2030, albeit in small print.
Just as with the Peugeot ad, the French brand has set this objective solely for the European market. This was confirmed by the CEO himself, Luca de Meo, in an interview with Automotive News staff with a statement that implies an increase in the commitment on the part of the French brand in relation to the initial plan presented last year, in which de Meo himself stressed that in order to 2030 would define 90% electrification in the brand.
However, this transformation of Renault into a 100% electric brand in Europe from 2030 only affects the diamond brand. Within the Renault Group, there are other brands that will maintain their own strategy, such as Dacia, which although it already has the Spring as its first 100% electric model, the second de Meo will be completely electrified “at the last possible moment”, thus seeking to maintain its 'low cost'. The same will happen with Lada, whose rush to become 100% electric will be even smaller given the nature of the Russian market in which it operates.
So, to face this gradual transformation that will culminate at the end of this decade, Renault will launch at least four all-electric models by 2025, among which are the expected and resurrected Renault 5, Renault 4, a small crossover and a MPV, which will join Zoe and the newcomer Mégane E-Tech Electric.
