Terranova wins sixth Dakar special in cars

Orlando Terranova and Daniel Oliveras(car:Prodrive Hunter T1) won this Friday (7) the sixth special of the Dakar Rally, disputed with start and finish in Riyadh, capital of Saudi Arabia. Unlike what happened on motorcycles and quads, the car drivers covered the scheduled 404 km, and the Argentinians from Prodrive closed the course in 3h06min45s.

Second place went to Mattias Ekstrom and Emil Bergkvist, an Audi duo who finished 1min06s behind Terranova and Oliveras. Yazeed Al-Rajhi and Michael Orr finished the special in third place with a Toyota, while Brian Baragwanath and Leonard Cremer, with a Century, were fourth best. Nani Roma and Alex Haro Bravo closed the top-5 with a Prodrive. Bernhard ten Brinke and Sébastien Delaunay, riding a Toyota, closed the special with the sixth best time, ahead of Shameer Variawa and Danie Stassen, the best Toyota team duo of the day. Martin Prokop and Viktor Chytka, with a Ford, were the eighth best, while Wei Han and Li Ma, duo who race with an SMG, took ninth place. Nasser Al-Attiyah and Matthieu Baumel, with a Toyota, closed the top-10.

Who presented a good performance was the Brazilian duo formed by Marcelo Gastaldi and Cadu Sachs, who completed the internship in 13th place, best result in this edition, with a Century. Sébastien Loeb and Fabian Lurquin, with a Prodrive, were the 30th best of the day, 21min31s behind Terranova and Oliveras. After six stages, Al-Attiyah and Baumel continue in the lead of the Dakar, now with 20:37:24s, expanding even further to the second placed, now Al-Rajhi and Orr. Loeb and Lurquin appear in third. Gastaldi and Sachs advanced to 40th place after Friday's special.

New 1-2-3 from Kamaz on trucks...Nobody can stop Kamaz trucks on the Dakar. The team's trios were the best in the special held in the Saudi capital, with Andrey Karginov, Andrey Mokeev and Ivan Malkov winning for the second day in a row, this time with an accumulated time of 3h16:16s.

Dmitry Sotnikov, Ruslan Akhmadeev and Ilgiz Akhmetzianov were runners-up, just nine seconds behind the winners. Eduard Nikolaev, Evgenii Yakovlev and Vladimir Ribakov closed the list of the top three and the 1-2-3 of Kamaz. Sotnikov, Akhmadeev and Akhmetzianov continue to lead the Dakar after six stages, now with 22:25:45 accumulated. Nikolaev, Iakovlev and Ribakov are the runners-up, with a delay of 10min29s. Anton Shibalov, Dmitrii Nikitin and Ivan Tatarinov are third.

Saturday off and departure from the Saudi capital on Sunday...The Dakar will not have a special dispute this Saturday (8), being resumed on Sunday, when the riders leave Riyadh and head towards Al-Dawadimi, in a timed route of 402 kilometers.
