Loeb beats Al-Attiyah and wins seventh stage

The Dakar accelerated once again. After a day of rest for the competitors, activities resumed this Sunday (9), between Riyadh and Al Dawadimi, and Sébastien Loeb again won a special stage of the rally, the second in the current edition, completing the 402 kilometers in 3h09min32s. Leader in the general classification, Nasser Al-Attiyah was in second position.

Winner of the last stage, Orlando Terranova was the first driver to accelerate this Sunday. At the first timing point, however, the order was already altered, with Mattias Ekström in first, joined by Nasser Al-Attiyah and Giniel De Villiers.

As usual, the category saw several changes in leadership and positions throughout the special. At kilometer 42, it was Henk Lategan's turn to take the lead, followed by Carlos Sainz and Sébastien Loeb. Ekström and Al-Attiyah dropped to fourth and fifth places, respectively.

In search of recovery, by the way, Sainz took the lead at kilometer 77. But it didn't last long, quickly losing the post to Loeb. Al-Attiyah still tried to close the gap to the Frenchman, but the advantage was 4min30s when they reached km 220, leaving the Spaniard behind as well.

From there, Loeb didn't give his rivals any chances and, despite Al-Attiyah's efforts, he managed an important victory for the title claims in Dakar 2022, with 5min26s advantage over his rival. Sainz closed in third, followed by Stéphane Peterhansel and Yasser Al Rajhi, closing the top-5.

In the general classification, Al-Attiyah has 23h52min22 in accumulated time, with 44min59s ahead of Loeb. Al Rajhi appears in third, with Lucio Álvares and Jakub Przygonski completing the top five after seven stages.
