German company partners to develop solutions for electrified buses

ZF, Freudenberg, Flixbus and the NGO Atmosfair teamed up to develop solutions for electric buses. Thus, they created HyFleet, a project to create fuel cells for the passenger transport sector. According to the companies, testing of new systems starts in up to three years. ZF has extensive experience in the development of transmissions and electrified systems.

According to ZF, the partnership is part of a set of actions for the transition to electric mobility. Thus, the company is betting that the fuel cell will be essential for the electrification of heavy vehicles. In this sense, it allows for great autonomy and quick refueling. That's because the system produces the energy used in the electric motor.

Freudenberg has been supplying fuel cell components and systems for over 20 years. According to the companies, the goal is to increase its durability and efficiency. Likewise, create standards for calculating the total cost of ownership (TCO) of fuel cell vehicles. Everything for the passenger transport area.

ZF highlights German government support...Thus, the HyFleet wants to achieve full-scale production capacity. As well as facilitating the execution of projects based on fuel cells for commercial vehicles. In this sense, the studies will allow the sizing of batteries. In addition to creating cooling systems and management software.

In turn, Flixbus will take care of the practical part of operating the buses. Finally, the German NGO Atmosfair will study carbon offsetting processes. According to the ZF, the German Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure has already sent a non-binding letter of intent to finance the project.
