1988 TLC Automotive LAND CRUISER FJ62
It is likely that many people have never heard of the American company TLC Automotive, but perhaps the name starts to mean something after this latest project, a spectacular Japanese classic all-terrain, completely updated. The company in question was founded by Jonathan and Jamie Ward in 1996, Jonathan is also known for founding Icon 4x4, a renowned specialist in classic restoration.
In this case, TLC focuses on restoring Toyota Land Cruiser models, such as the FJ62 in the images, which dates back to 1988 and already has 33 years on its back, although it is now fully modernized and costs no less than $175,000.
Work on this FJ62 begins with restoring the original chassis of one of these Land Cruisers, which TLC has rebuilt to make it look almost fresh from the factory, replacing a multitude of components. The original in-line 6-cylinder engine, for example, gives way to a 6.2 liter V8 LS3 block of Chevrolet origin, capable of offering 436 hp of power and a maximum torque of 576 Nm, which is coupled with a 4-wheel automatic transmission. speeds (4L65E), also from General Motors.
Thanks to this new V8 engine, TLC's FJ62 has almost 2.8 times more power than the original model, whose 6-cylinder block conformed to just 157 hp. Thus, it should be much faster on the road, although their specifications have not been announced. What we do know is that under its classic body, this Land Cruiser hides a suspension signed by experts from the company Old Man Emi, who say that it facilitates a much more comfortable gait than the standard one. The tires, on the other hand, are BFGoodrich All-Terrain KO2 for off-road use, and the brake system now has rear discs. Inside, the FJ62 gets a host of improvements, from leather upholstery to heated seats and new controls for the climate control system. There is also a revised dashboard, with multimedia system and browser, for example.Autonews
