Nexon EV: is the SUV much loved by Indians
The TATA Nexon EV can be proud of being a real bestseller in India's fledgling electric vehicle market. Currently, TATA's small SUV represents approximately 60% of all electric cars sold in India. Aiming to consolidate this dominant position and, above all, give a new boost to its sales, the brand is working on an important update.
Key to the Nexon EV's success was, among other things, its excellent price-performance ratio. It is one of the most affordable electric vehicles in its class and if it were to be sold in the West it would make things very difficult for the small electric crossovers that can be found at dealerships.
Although the current model has a 30.2 kWh battery that gives it a lower autonomy than that of its direct rivals, the TATA model fills this need with a more affordable sale price. And in a market like the Indian one, the price factor continues to be decisive. Even when purchasing an electric vehicle. Taking into account that the Nexon EV's natural habitat is the urban environment, drivers who are betting on this model have a second car with a combustion engine.
The electric car currently plays a very minor role in India. However, short-term growth forecasts are very promising. Therefore, TATA wants to avoid the risk that it means to keep a model with low autonomy in its portfolio, considering that other groups in the local automobile industry, such as Mahindra, have already started ambitious plans for electrification.
For that reason, and to respond to requests from brand followers, TATA will enrich the Nexon EV line with a new long-range version. A version that will be equipped with a 40 kWh battery. According to expert Indian media, the new 40kWh Nexon EV will forgo part of its trunk in order to accommodate the larger battery capacity.
TATA's electric SUV will be able to advertise a range of 400 km. A figure that will be reduced to approximately 300 km in real use conditions. With this improvement, the Nexon EV will be able to face the MG ZS EV and the Hyundai Kona Electric, its most direct rivals from far away India.
The update will not focus exclusively on increasing battery capacity. TATA will carry out other adjustments, such as the incorporation of a brake level selector during braking. You will also take the opportunity to add to the offer new wheels and other equally detachable equipment.
