PORSCHE CLASSIC COMMUNICATION MANAGEMENT: SISTEMA MULTIMÍDIA E NAVEGADOR PARA OS PORSCHE CLÁSSICOS

Porsche Classic Communication Management (PCCM) provides the brand's classic models with the connectivity functions characteristic of today's navigation and infotainment systems

They can be implemented in all standard vehicles in the Porsche Classic program, except the Porsche 356 and Carrera GT.

There are two versions: PCCM is designed for models that had a single 1-DIN or DIN size radio, normal until the mid-1990s. PCCM Plus has a 2-DIN or double DIN size, suitable for the first 911 water cooled (996) and for the first Boxster (986), which at that time could already be equipped with Porsche Communication Management.

The 1-DIN size PCCM is suitable for Porsche models that span decades, when this shape was the industry standard: from the F-series 911 through the 993, as well as the mid-engine 914 and Transaxle vehicles (924, 944, 968 and 928). It has a 3.5-inch (8.9 cm) screen in the center and, on the sides, two rotary knobs and six keys to use. It has two microphones, one external and one internal.

The maps are stored on an SD-type memory card, which can be purchased separately from Porsche Classic Online Shops and Porsche Centers. However, it is also possible to use navigation with internet maps, as is currently the case. In any case, the indications consist of arrows in two or three dimensions, depending on the driver's preference. It also has a built-in Traffic Message Channel (TMC) function, which informs of possible traffic problems through notifications.

Other functions of the PCCM are the reception of digital radio stations with DAB and the connection to devices via Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay for iPhone 5 or higher users - which expands the possibilities of using multimedia playback and navigation -, in addition to of phone usage. You can also play music via Bluetooth connection, an SD card, USB-connected devices or an auxiliary (AUX) jack.

With a rough-textured matte black finish and the timeless design of its controls, the PCCM is perfectly integrated into any Porsche classic where it can be installed.

Both the Boxster 986, launched in 1996, and the 911 of the 996 series, which appeared in 1997, could already be equipped with the Porsche Communication Management system. Now Porsche Classic offers the opportunity to replace it with PCCM Plus, which has completely updated functions and a 7.0-inch (17.8 cm) high-resolution touchscreen.

PCCM Plus can perform all PCCM functions, such as navigation and infoetainment systems and, in addition, it also supports the Android Auto interface. Like PCCM, PCCM Plus uses the car's sound installation: the antenna, the speakers and, if you have it, the amplifier. It cannot control the multi-CD changer, although it accepts any other sound source.

The look, feel and design of PCCM Plus harmonizes perfectly with other panel elements such as air vents and buttons. In other words, it is perfectly integrated into the environment of these sports vehicles. It is also compatible with the navigation screens in instrumentation.

The images show the entire process of replacing the original PCM of a 996 series 911 with PCCM Plus.

For Porsche Center technicians, this is a simple operation that takes less than 30 minutes. The price of PCCM in Europe is around 1,400 euros and that of PCCM Plus 1,600 euros, in both cases not counting labor. They can be purchased from Porsche Centers and also from the Porsche Classic online store.
