Dangel 4x4 from 1985 in almost new condition is for sale in Italy
This news comes from Italy and is actually very curious. Today, virtually all brands have at least one in their lineup, but in the 1980s SUVs were very rare. Except for the iconic Range Rover, very few elevated and all-wheel drive models were available on the market. One of those vehicles was the strange 1985 Peugeot 505 Break 4x4 Dangel, which could be considered the first true crossover from the French manufacturer. The car has a very special history and is for sale at a specialist in Reggio Emilia, Italy.
If we hear very little about this 505, it's not strange, but normal. Peugeot manufactured only 5,000 copies of the Dangel 4x4 and of these, only 500 were made with the Break family body. Many of these specimens, due to their off-road capabilities, went to North Africa, which made them even more inaccessible to European customers. It is estimated, in fact, that only 20 copies remained in the Old Continent and this one that is being sold now is the only one in all of Italy, for example.
This same model was acquired during an auction in 2018 and the corresponding ad was very helpful in reconstructing the history of this very special Peugeot. And that's not all, as it's the 505 himself who tells his 'life' through a green document, complemented with text showing the different ownership changes.
According to the website of Bolaffi Auction, the model was delivered new to the French embassy in Libya, where it remained until 2014. That year, the 505 was imported by Italy and underwent a complete renovation that left the vehicle in the state shown in the images.
Peugeot's SUV has eye-catching lines compared to other models from the 1980s. The 505 Break project was the work of Dangel, a French company specialized in the adventurous transformation of Peugeot and Citroën vehicles.
The result was an authentic 4x4 with 22 centimeters of ground clearance, a 5-speed manual transmission with short gear ratio, lower shields and a 60 centimeter wetland capability.
In the cabin there are analogue indicators specific to a good off-road, such as an inclinometer. The model that appears in the ad is painted in the color Blanc Meje and has a 2.0 liter gasoline engine that develops a power of 98 hp.
Another interesting aspect is the price. In 2018, the car was sold at auction for 23,500 euros, whereas today the cost is 59,000 euros, much more than the roughly 30,000 euros a modern 5008 (the biggest SUV in the entire Peugeot line) with the equipment costs. basic. An almost tripled amount, and reasonable, if we take into account that we are talking about a cult object for any good collector.
