Premium brand presents its new luxury sedan
Hyundai wants to expand the high-end product line of its Genesis brand and thus reach a greater number of customers in different parts of the planet. After incorporating a renovated G80 and its first SUV, the GV80, two other vehicles were added to the portfolio of models signed by the Korean manufacturer. We're talking about a smaller crossover - the GV70 - along with another more compact sedan, the G70. With all this exhibition of cars, we could think that the future of the brand's flagship would be further away than ever, but it's not like that, since the company itself has just released the first official images of the Genesis G90.
The most representative sedan of the Korean luxury brand wants to boost its sales and for that it is about to debut a new generation with which it can compete with size rivals such as the Audi A8, BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S Class. It's worth remembering that this vehicle's license plates over the past two fiscal years barely exceeded 2,000 units a year, so it seemed plausible that Genesis could forget about the flagship, but it turns out that Hyundai's premium brand chose to develop a new one. delivers and has just unveiled the ultimate exterior design. The next generation will retain the distinctive design of recent Genesis releases, with split headlamps and an oversized front grille, although the latter has a less pointed undercarriage than before. From the side profile, we see a higher waistline than the G80, while the wheels display a very attractive design. Still looking from the side view, we can see that the blue color in the images corresponds to the extended chassis version, which increases the wheelbase by 190 millimeters.
Both configurations display recessed door handles and can be easily distinguished by the size of the rear doors. In addition, Genesis offers different sets of 20 inch wheels. That said, the new addition of the G90 can boast the most extensive turn signals ever seen in a production car, continuing with the split-light front design. The same lighting idea can be enjoyed at the rear, as the headlamps are divided into highly stylized LED technology units that span the width of the bumper and back cover. The spoiler integrated into the trunk lid echoes the previous generation model, as do the trapezoidal double exhaust vents. As for the interior, Genesis hasn't offered any images yet, so we'll have to wait the next few weeks to discover it. The next generation G90 is expected to borrow cabin details from its brothers G80 and GV80, including a two-spoke steering wheel design, digital instrument panel and high-quality materials.
The same happens with the mechanical part of the G90. There is no information about the powertrain, but it is said that the sedan will receive the well-known twin-turbo 3.5 liter V6 engine from Genesis, developing 380 hp of power that will be digested by the rear wheels, although an optional full-wheel drive system will be available. It remains to be seen whether it will also have a 100% electric version.
Genesis is expected to first unveil the G90 in the Korean market and then do the same with other regions in Asia and the US. Its debut will take place in early 2022.
