SCUDO 2022: THE ITALIAN VAN ARRIVES ELECTRIFIED
After releasing a small but interesting advance at the end of last October, FIAT Professional's new light commercial vehicle has just been launched. FIAT Scudo 2022 is already a reality and enters the scene loaded with numerous and important news. The new Stellantis van is prepared to face these new times.
Along with the new Scudo, the Italian manufacturer's new 100% electric van, the new FIAT E-Scudo, was also unveiled. Developed on the Stellantis EMP2 platform, it will be sold in Van, Combi and Cabin with platform versions.
The new Scudo is characterized by having compact exterior dimensions and a large interior cargo space. It's a perfect van for dealing with the big city. The standard version measures less than 5 meters in length and the height reaches 1.9 m.
Although designed to transport all types of goods, the new Scudo can adapt to different needs. It can also be used for the private transport of passengers. It can be configured with up to 9 seats.
The front part of the cabin can accommodate up to three seats usable by adult passengers. The configuration options are very wide. Depending on the wheelbase, the Scudo's load volumes are 4.6, 5.3 and 6.1 m3.
Once settled in the driver's seat, if we're facing a top-of-the-line version, we'll quickly realize the technological level of the new Scudo. The nerve center of the cabin is, without a doubt, a 7.0-inch touchscreen. This component is essential to manage the multimedia system that is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. In addition, the instrument panel has a 4.0-inch LCD screen and a Head-Up Display can also be equipped.
The list of driving assistance systems is very extensive. Among other technologies, it includes automatic recognition of traffic signs, involuntary lane change alert, blind spot alert, 180º rear view camera and frontal collision alert.
As far as the mechanics are concerned, the new Scudo will be available with a wide selection of diesel engines. The power range will range from the 102 hp of the access option to the 180 hp of the highest performing engine. Next to the chosen engine there will be a 6-speed manual transmission or an 8-speed automatic transmission.
To guarantee optimal behavior on all types of surfaces, the new Scudo can be equipped with the Grip Control system. Allows adapting the operation of the traction system depending on the conditions of the terrain. Snow, clay or earth, for example.
Along with the new Scudo, a new all-electric van enters the scene. The new FIAT E-Scudo is destined to play a leading role in the electrification process initiated by FIAT Professional. On the line, he will stand as the 'little brother' of the current FIAT E-Ducato. The supply of electric vans is growing at a fast pace and the new E-Scudo will deal in a segment where competition is fierce. Now, it has the support of Stellantis.
The new E-Scudo will be sold with two battery sizes: 50 and 75 kWh. The main purpose of the chosen battery will be none other than to power the engine with 100 kW (136 hp) and 260 Nm of maximum torque. Power is sent to the front axle and top speed reaches 130 km/h. The autonomy reaches 330 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle for the model with a 75 kWh battery. With the lower capacity battery the autonomy is 230 km.
In the design process of FIAT's new electric van, they had a very clear objective, to offer the same load capacity as the thermal versions. It has a towing capacity of 1,000 kg, a payload of 1,000 kg and a load volume of 6.6 m3.
The charging time will, of course, vary depending on the charging point used. The new E-Scudo features an AC charging capacity of up to 11 kW and up to 100 kW DC. 80% battery charge can be obtained in just 45 minutes.
As for its arrival on the market, the order book for the new FIAT Scudo will open in the main European markets in the same month of December. Details regarding the line, such as prices, will be revealed shortly. It will be offered in three trim levels (Easy, Business and Lounge).
