ESTE VOLKSWAGEN ID.4 GTX ENFRENTARÁ O REBELLE RALLY 2021 NOS ESTADOS UNIDOS

VW ID.4 electric SUV will participate in rally in the USA

Many people probably don't see Volkswagen ID.4 electric SUV as a rally car, but Mercedes Lilienthal and Emily Winslow believe that the German model is the vehicle for the Rebelle Rally competition 2021, which will be celebrated between the 7th and 16th of October.

The crew will face the challenge of this off-road and navigation competition for women in the deserts of Nevada and California, in the United States, where it is not allowed to use GPS or mobile phones. Just a compass, a map and a roadbook or route meter.

This rally travels 2,500 kilometers through impressive desert landscapes during eight days of competition, so it is a tough and demanding race. This year's edition of 2021 is the sixth held to date.

The route departs from the famous city of Las Vegas, Nevada, and ends in the town of Glamis, California, close to the Mexican border. According to the organization, the route is carried out “through tracks that respect the desert environment”.

In this case, the vehicle was prepared by Tanner Foust Racing and Rhys Millen Racing, and will participate in the crossover category. The decoration of the electric SUV, in charge of designer Liz Kuz, takes its inspiration precisely from the deserts it will cross during the race.

The model includes modifications such as new suspension components (tubular arms), lower shields to preserve the battery, a Thule roof rack and Yokohama Geolandar all-terrain tires.

This ID.4 is the all-wheel drive GTX version, which in the United States is sold as AWD Pro. It has two electric motors, with a power of 220 kW or 299 hp and a maximum torque of 459 Nm. of 77 useful kWh (82 gross) and offers a range of 480 kilometers in the WLTP cycle.

Finally, it should be noted that Lilienthal, a freelance journalist based in Oregon, has already participated in the 2018 Rebelle Rally, while her companion Winslow, from Washington State, competed in two editions, 2018 and 2019, managing to finish on the podium in her first year
