Volvo's new app promises to optimize range of trams

According to the automaker, with this latest “over-the-air” update, all-electric vehicles will have greater range thanks to improvements in intelligent battery management and regeneration performance, as well as a smarter timer to pre-condition the batteries.

“Through in-house software development and over-the-air updates, we can constantly improve our cars and ensure your electric Volvo stays up to date,” said Sanela Ibrovic, head of connected experience at Volvo Cars, in a press release.

How it works?...With the app, embedded in the infotainment system powered by Android OS, Volvo electric car drivers receive an indication of the estimated remaining driving range and real-time energy consumption. It also helps them understand the main factors that affect their driving range.A range optimizer functionality in the app can automatically adjust the weather system in order to improve the driving range, for example a feature that will be useful on longer trips as it reduces the need for charging stops.

More updates...Volvo Cars has been offering over-the-air upgrades since the beginning of this year and will soon be available in more models and markets.Other features and updates in the latest version of the software include additional improvements to security systems, new information on cold weather impact on battery capacity, and various bug fixes.

Availability...The release of this latest software update is planned to begin immediately, with all applicable models expected to be updated by the end of October.
