MASERATI

THE TRUE SPORT SPIRIT OF THE ITALIAN BRAND RETURNS IN HIGH STYLE

Maserati has been flying under the radar for a long time. Except for the presentation of Levante, the Italian brand didn't have much to say. From now on and with the presentation of the Maserati MC20, Italians want to change this whole picture and return to the brand's past glories. A company full of history, victories on the tracks and some models that dictated the aesthetics and luxury of an era in many ways. The MC20 is the brand's first truly car in decades, so its launch is not anything.

Currently the brand's portfolio consists of an SUV, two sedans, a coupe and a convertible. Fortunately, the MC20 again gives the brand a supercar, the first made since 2004 when the MC12 - which basically was a Ferrari Enzo with a different body - hit the streets as a super-exclusive model, with a stratospheric price and that even had competition versions.

The MC20 has been in development for some years and the brand sought to give it the smoothest and most fluid strokes they could find, which is why they emphasize that the development of their body, to be as aerodynamic as possible, spent hundreds of hours in the wind tunnel of the Dallara, in addition to thousands of other computer simulations to perfect each surface without having to add excessive details. Its drag coefficient is 0.38 CD, not bad, although the new Mercedes-Benz S Class has reached 0.22.
Its design does not hide that it has a good amount of power, but without leaving behind the characteristic features of the brand, such as its front grille, elongated headlights and a rear part with long lanterns and lots of exposed carbon fiber.

Unlike other models where luxury takes precedence, in the MC20 the focus is on driving, so they sought to limit the elements placed on the center console. There is a 10 inch screen for the digital instrument panel and another, also 10 inch, for the infotainment system, located in the center of the panel.

There are more elements focused on being able to enjoy the car on some long trips, but the main function is to make the most of its performance, so even the steering wheel has controls to access the most essential functions that will be visible on your instrument panel digital. In addition, there is an exclusive button for Launch Control on the same steering wheel.

Maserati wants the car to be able to be used also for traveling, so they looked for a way to create two trunk, one in the rear with 100 liters of capacity - remembering that it is a central engine model - and another in the front with another 50 liters of capacity.
The situation that the brand has been going through in recent years, plus the fact that Ferrari has long been above it within the FCA Group, has made Maserati share many elements with Ferrari, including engines and other essential elements in creating a car. Now without Ferrari on the road, Maserati has returned to developing and building its own engines after just over 20 years without doing so.
The heart of the MC20 will be a 3.0-liter V6 biturbo engine called ‘Nettuno’ and which makes reference to the god of the sea and which wields a trident that Maserati uses as an emblem. This engine can produce 630 hp and 730 Nm of torque. It is worth mentioning that it does not have any level of electrification, however, this engine is special because it has two combustion chambers to ensure better efficiency, consumption and power delivery, this through a system that Maserati patented and says that comes to the most powerful V6 in a production car.

Its transmission will be an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic that will deliver power exclusively to the rear axle. As standard it will have a mechanical limited slip differential, but it can optionally have an electric one. Its construction is based on a carbon fiber monocoque for greater rigidity and lightness, thanks to that it weighs just under 1,500 kg.
The mechanics and lightness allow you to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in just 2.9 seconds and from 0 to 200 km / h in 8.8 seconds with a maximum speed limited to 325 km / h. It will feature a driving mode selector with the following options: Wet (wet), GT, Sport, Corsa and ESC Off to clear the stability control and any other driving assistance.
So far the Maserati MC20 has no level of electrification, but the brand has confirmed that its platform allows it to be a fully electric car as well. Power figures have not been clarified or when we will be able to see this version without a combustion engine reaching the streets. It should be noted that the brand's plan also involves having hybrid and electric versions of all its models, so that there may even be room for a plug-in hybrid in the future.

Maserati is already accepting reservations for this vehicle, although it has not revealed the price. Production will begin in late 2020 and its first units will reach their owners throughout 2021.
Maserati's resurgence comes thanks to a change in plans in the development strategy that FCA - owner of the Italian brand - had implemented some time ago, because now the brand is the top in terms of design and luxury in the group, remembering that there are some years FCA sold the controlling stake in Ferrari.
Thanks to this, Maserati was tasked with having about 10 new products and updates in addition to the ones it already has. In addition to planning his return to the tracks, the promise to triple his sales in the next three years and reinstate himself as one of the greatest exponents in performance, luxury and prestige among his rivals.
