Israel sues VW for 135 million euros

The State of Israel sued Volkswagen AG and the importer of the group's brands to the country, Champion Motors, for a value of 135 million euros. The alleged reason has to do with fraud and negligence associated with the Dieselgate case.
The case was filed with the Tel Aviv court, based on the alleged fact that VW, Audi and Champion Motors sold around 12,000 vehicles equipped with the EA189 engine, a turbodiesel with 1.6 TDI and 2.0 TDI versions. Israel accuses Volkswagen of having used counterfeit software to deceive the country's authorities, by declaring that those engines respected the limits imposed by environmental rules, which proved to be not the case under real conditions of use.
The Israelis also maintain that, if the actual emission values were known, the 12,000 units would not have seen their commercialization in the country approved, being therefore responsible for the emission of 3881 tons of NOx. Those responsible for the country associate the emissions above expectations with an increase in diseases due to problems with air quality and degradation of public health.
Despite the apparent fury of the State of Israel, even if it manages to prove guilt, the fine will be a drop in the face of the amount that Volkswagen AG has already been forced to disburse in the USA, where the deal involved a payment of 22 billion of dollars.
