GOLF GTI FROM GLOBAL TOURING CARS

The new generation of Volkswagen Golf has definitely been one of the most controversial products we've seen in a long time. He didn't put a wheel around here and yet it is already in the minds of many people. Now, the first images of its first racing version, the Volkswagen Golf GTI GTC, arrive from South Africa.
This competition version was created for the South African touring car championship, where Volkswagen Motorsport used the Jetta as a base car, but due to a change in its production it was necessary to migrate to the new Golf GTI. In this championship all the cars that compete have the same specifications, so what we see on the track is more a fight for talent from the drivers than a demonstration of power on the part of the team that can spend more to have the car faster.

The Global Touring Cars (GTC) which was launched in South Africa in 2016, is the most important motorsport competition in that country and includes the main GTC Championship (GTC1), as well as the second level class, GTC2. Volkswagen Motorsport will compete with two units of the new Golf GTI. They will be piloted by Keagan Masters, champion of GTC 2019, and Daniel Rowe, champion of GTC2 2016.

The competition-focused model develops 268 hp, derived from mechanics that are coupled to a 6-speed sequential M-Trac transmission developed locally. In the GTC series, all vehicles must comply with strict control measures that have the same specifications, with a common chassis, powertrain, a single ECU, tires, suspension and other components.
The start of the official racing season for the South African motor racing circuit 2020 has yet to be confirmed, but it is hoped that events can start in August at the Zwartkops Raceway in Johannesburg.
