BUGATTI

CHIRON PUR SPORT RUNNING IN NÜRBURGRING

The Nürburgring is usually the place where a wide variety of brands make the final adjustments to their cars before they hit the market, and certainly a Bugatti designed specifically for the track would not be an exception. In the middle of its demanding testing program that took him to several tracks such as the German one by Bilster Berg, the new Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport reached the real test of fire in its final adjustments, running on the German circuit of the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
The famous Green Hell was the setting chosen by Bugatti for the final tests of its new model. A set of winding curves and unevenness of more than 20 km, perfect for proving the handling and smooth operation of systems such as the software that controls the chassis, responsible for elements such as steering and damping. The truth is that all this improved regulation seems to work very well seeing this onboard video that shows the Bugatti running at full speed in one of the fastest areas of the German route.
“It is extremely important for us that the Chiron Pur Sport customer instantly feels the much more radical approach that we are taking with this car in terms of driving dynamics,” explains Stefan Ellrott, Director of Development at Bugatti. “With its unusual topography, numerous curves and the high speed section from Döttinger Höhe onwards, the northern layout (Nordschleife) is very demanding for both the driver and the vehicle, which is why it is ideal for our new model , which is optimized for agility and speed ”.

However, Bugatti explains that, despite this greater focus on performance on the track, they have not neglected their daily use. “The customer's impression of the car in everyday use is as important to us as running on the track,” says Jachin Schwalbe, Head of Chassis Development. “In this way, we guarantee that the versatility of this member of the Chiron family is equally appreciable. The vehicle needs to be extremely accurate and predictable, but also easy to drive in the usual Bugatti way, whether on tracks or on public roads. ”
In order to face the demanding Nordschleife curves in a way never seen before in a Bugatti, the brand's engineers lightened the normal Bugatti Chiron by 50 kg, installing new wheels and brake discs and, of course, worked hard on the aerodynamic part carried out by a huge new fixed rear spoiler. A revised suspension with shock absorbers and stiffer springs and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires was also installed with a compound created specifically for this model. All this with the famous W16 quad-turbo engine with the same 1,500 hp as the conventional model, but on this occasion with an adapted transmission with shorter ratios and about 80% new parts to prioritize acceleration over the extraordinary speed of its brothers. Thus, the maximum speed is at 350 km / h, with the red zone of the rev counter rising to 6,900 rpm.
Bugatti will build 60 units of this Chiron Pur Sport, which will cost around 3 million euros. Production will begin in the second half of 2020 in Molsheim, France.
