TUNNING

i8 SEARCH BY EDO MOTOSPORT

The world of car preparers is very varied and different specialists can appear in markets on any continent, with Europe being one of the most outstanding due to its diversity. In Switzerland, for example, there is EDO Motorsport, a company that may not be well known, but after this work on the BMW i8, everything will be very different for them.
Under the name BMW i8 Procar hides a beast that intimidates its presence, and it is not for nothing, because the modifications made to the body, which could make it pass by a competition car, were actually started with the idea to convert the German model into a Safety Car.
However, some components were added along the way. For example, EDO Motorsport has developed an even more aggressive front splitter, which together with the new fins provide additional aerodynamic load.

A wild airfoil in GT3 format has also been incorporated which generates up to 200 kilos of downforce on the rear axle. The large diffuser with large appendages completes the set and contributes to reducing the car's air resistance. All of this made it possible for the Procar to be 40 kilos lighter than a conventional i8.

A very relieved interior contributed largely to this weight-loss task, which was devoid of everything that is not essential, so that now there is no sound equipment or control units. The cabin has been reinforced with a safety arch and the factory seats have been replaced by more sporty ones that offer better grip. Carbon fiber is still present to reduce the total mass of the set as much as possible.
But, without a doubt, one of the most outstanding parts is the referred propulsion system. Here, the improvements made in both the thermal and electric engines are of particular importance, resulting in an outstanding result of 490 hp of power and a maximum torque of 890 Nm. It should be remembered that the original figures were 374 hp and 570 Nm. achieved with an optimized intake, larger turbo compressors and a battery with an increased capacity.

Last but not least, mention should be made of the modifications made to the chassis. The preparer chose to replace several aluminum and plastic panels with carbon fiber ones, in addition to having modified the geometry of the suspension on the front axle with more pronounced negative drops. The dampers are now signed by Bilstein and come from the i8 used in Formula E as a Safety Car. In addition, it has innovative wheels that are fitted with 280 mm tires at the front and 300 mm at the rear.
