Euro 6d standard pushes LADA 4x4 away from Europe
Although it is a cargo vehicle with more than 40 years on its back, the Lada Niva, or Lada 4x4, as it was christened in recent years, had managed to survive the harsh demands that means its stay in a market like the European.
However, the latest changes in emission standards seem to have been a lot for the Russian All-Terrain veteran and AvtoVAZ decided to cease its marketing on the Old Continent. With the entry into force of the Euro 6d emissions standard, the Lada 4x4 will no longer be able to comply with the requirements, so the All-Terrain incombustible will finally say goodbye by leaving the back door.
In the last month of December the 'Niva' had received its latest update, a renovation that included exterior changes, specifically on the front, which in the more equipped versions included fog lights integrated in the bumper.
The interior also received some interesting improvements, as it received a new design panel and a renewed instrumentation that incorporated an LCD screen, renewed climate control controls, as well as a number of improvements in the endowment.
What had not been updated, however, had been the mechanics, which received very few changes throughout its 4 decades of existence. The Lada 4x4 is equipped with a 1.7-liter engine, a naturally aspirated 4-cylinder block that develops 84 hp of power, but fails to exceed the new CO2 emission standards that are in force in Europe.
AvtoVAZ has been experiencing a possible successor to the Niva. Recalling that the Russian brand presented at the Moscow Salon 2018 the Lada 4x4 Vision Concept, a conceptual work inspired by the iconic model, which anticipated the lines of a possible successor of the All-Terrain.
The prototype featured the typical Niva profile, albeit with a revamped design, in line with the latest releases of the Russian brand. However, the design seems to have not advanced and for now the manufacturer does not speak of a possible successor to this model veteran.
Although the Lada 4x4 is no longer sold in Western Europe, it will continue in production in Russia and surely there are still some good years of life ahead of it.
