Suzuki announces renewal with Mir and closes pair with Rins until season 2022

Suzuki announced, this Saturday morning (2), the renewal of the contract with young Joan Mir until the end of the 2022 season. Days after confirming the permanence of Álex Rins for the same period, the Hamamatsu brand, led by Davide Brivio thus manages to ensure a good base for the next two years.
Mir, 22, born in Palma de Mallorca, debuted in MotoGP last year and scored a fifth place at the Australian GP as his best result. Moto3 champion in 2017, the rider stayed just one year in Moto2 - he finished sixth in 2018 - before making the transition to the MotoGP World Championship.
“I am extremely happy to sign with Suzuki for another two years. Renovating is the best thing that could happen and is, again, a dream come true. It is very important for me to continue because I have more time to learn and more time to show my potential ”, he said.
"Two years can go by quickly, but I am ready to reach the highest level, and we are working every day to make that happen," said Mir, underscoring the strength of Suzuki as a whole.
“I am also very satisfied, on a personal level, to have a good team, to have a good team around me. I really want to thank everyone at Suzuki for their confidence in me, and let's see if I can achieve the results we are able to achieve ”, he added.
Mir's stay was hailed by the Suzuki boss. "We are very happy to have reached an agreement with Joan Mir and to complete our pair for the next two years," said Brivio.
“We consider Joan to be a very talented driver, and it is important to stay together to make the most of the experience we have built so far and try to improve even more. We are also happy to have a young team, with two strong drivers, like Álex and Joan, which has always been our goal. This allows us to look to the future with confidence ”, said the leader.
“I would like to thank Joan for trusting us with her future and also for the entire Suzuki Motor Corporation for their support. Being able to expand the agreements with Álex and Mir during this strange moment in history is a sign that gives us high hopes for the future and encourages all fans to look to the future with positivity and optimism, with the hope that we will get back on track as soon as possible ”, he concluded.
With the signing of a contract with Mir, Suzuki is the second team to close its duo for 2021, following in the footsteps of Yamaha, which has already assured the permanence of Maverick Viñales and the promotion of Fabio Quartararo, who will replace Valentino Rossi in the team factory next year. And the great name of today, the six-time champion Marc Márquez, also has his future guaranteed at Honda after having renewed his contract until 2024. © Provided by Grand Prix-Brazil
