MERCEDES-BENZ

o 500Company launches bus o500 more powerful and with larger PTB

Mercedes-Benz has just released novelties for its road bus line the 500. The models O500 RSD and O500 RSDD gained engine option with power of 430 hp from 1,900 rpm and touch of 214 mkgf from 1,100 rpm. The new configuration becomes the third of the "family" OM 457 LA, offered in Brazil until then with 360 hp and 408 HP.
The increase in power is the result of a reprogramming of the electronic engine management modules. Launched in 2003, the OM 457 LA has six in-line cylinders, 12 liters, turbo and intercooler. It is the same propeller that equips the mechanical horse Axor 2544.
Director of sales and marketing of buses at Mercedes-Benz do Brasil, Walter Barbosa says the novelty meets a market demand. "The fleet wanted a more powerful engine. This release ensures greater efficiency in operation, especially for the DD (Double Decker) and HD (High Decker) models of 14 and 15 meters."
There will be three transmission options
DD is aimed at mixed applications. Its two floors are intended exclusively for passengers. The beds are on the bottom and the business class on the top.
In HD, in turn, the ceiling is high. The lower area is reserved to accommodate luggage and other types of cargo. The seats are at the top.
The new engine option will equip the models the 500 RSD 2443 6×2 and the 500 RSDD 2743 8×2. Unpublished, these buses are intended for medium and long distance road operations. The focus is the area of luxury tourism.
Three transmission options will be offered. The input is manual and has six speeds. The automatic has eight gears and automated, also six-speed, is from the ZF Ecolife line.

PTB increased to 19.6 tons
In Brazil, Mercedes-Benz already offers the version of this bus with 14-meter bodywork. But an update made in resolution 210 of the National Transit Council (Contran) changed the criterion of tipping tests. To meet the norm, the company had to increase the structural reinforcements. As a result, the vehicle became heavier.
To ensure the competitiveness of the product, Mercedes-Benz has expanded the carrying capacity of the range. Now the total gross weight (PBT) is 19.6 tons, compared to 18.5 tons of the previous model. The front axle now had a capacity of 7.1 t and the rear axle, of 12.5 t.
This change widened the possibilities of configuration of the model, according to Barbosa. Among the advantages over the previous one are the increase in the number of seats or luggage compartment, for example.

Mercedes-Benz bets on safety
Other news, all focused on security, will come as standard in the 500 RSDD 8×2 from July. One of them is adaptive cruise control( ACC), the official name of the “Autopilot".
The AEBS is the advanced emergency hay system. This feature can triggers the brakes automatically in case of imminent frontal collision risk. On the other hand, LDWS is an alert of involuntary exit from the rolling track. In addition to Audible and visual warning, by means of lights, it is possible to add a device that makes the driver's seat vibrate. o 500500 RSD 2443 6×2 (Engine: 430hp version of the OM 457 LA O 500 line)
All these solutions were already offered by Mercedes-Benz in Brazil since 2018. But until then they were available only in the list of optional. ” By extending the range of active safety technologies to various models, we reaffirm the positioning of the 500 as the safest road bus in the country, " says Barbosa.
The buses the 500 RSD 2443 and RSDD 2743 also have a general key activated by means of a key on the instrument panel. And ramp start assistant. Another novelty Sane aluminum wheels in the measures 9.00 x 22,5 sidewalks with tires 295/80 R22, 5. Autonews
