INDYCAR

Mario Andretti wants Ferrari at Indy and proposes a conversation with Roger Penske: "It would be incredible"

Mario Andretti(image above) wants Ferrari to cross the Atlantic Ocean and join Indy. The former ferrari driver and champion of the two categories, Indy and Formula 1, stated that it would be a huge gain for the US championship if Ferrari were present on the grid.
Today, at the age of 80, Andretti said that the rules should be changed so that Ferrari can enter the championship using its own chassis, without depending on those built by Dallara, another Italian factory that currently designs the Indy chassis.
"To count on Ferrari would be incredible. I speak not only as a driver, but from the point of view of the whole panorama," he said in an interview with the Italian newspaper 'La Gazzetta dello Sport'
"Of course, the rules would have to be changed, but I would like an all-Italian dispute between Dallara and Ferrari," he continued.
"Bringing Cavallino would increase interest in the championship, but there is an obstacle in the rules. I suggest that Mattia Binotto [Ferrari boss] come [to the USA] and propose a project for Roger Penske," he continued.
Ferrari even built a car for the Indy 500 in 1986, but did not participate in the race. Last year, 2019, Scuderia Corsa, an arm of the Italian factory, participated in the race in partnership with Carpenter and finished in 13th position with Ed Jones at the wheel.
