OnStar launches alert indicating low automotive battery level

OnStar, Chevrolet's exclusive car service, has launched a new function. Now the system has an alert that indicates when the battery charge of the car is low. As soon as detected by the vehicle, the warning is sent to the customer's Whatsapp, which is instructed to start the engine for 15 minutes in an airy place for recharging to be done. The low rate of use of the car and the non-operation of the engine at least every 15 days potentiate the energy drain. When this happens, the car does not start. The solution can range from a mechanical rescue to the need for battery replacement.
Low battery alert service is available for Chevrolet's new generation of Connected Cars (New Onix, new Tracker and new Cruze) with some active OnStar plan, including the free one, for proper user identification.
"A month after the start of the quarantine, we observed that 10% of cars with OnStar had a critical level of battery charge. With the messages, the situation returned to normal without the vehicles having to take to the streets. Customers approved the initiative, and many found that the battery of a new car is also subject to this phenomenon,” says Rosana Herbst, director of connected services at GM South America.

Remote drive
When an automobile is turned off, part of its electronic system continues to consume energy, in a much smaller amount, but enough to drain the battery charge in a few weeks. With the myChevrolet app, you can control vehicle functions from a distance, such as turning the engine on and off without having to move to the car.
The remote drive of the propeller was a feature originally developed to start cabin air conditioning remotely and is exclusive to configurations equipped with automatic transmission. Through the application it is also possible to consult the life of the oil, the fuel level in the tank and the tire pressure, other relevant items that need attention when a car is stopped for longer periods.
