FIA reaches out to Ferrari
Ferrari produces fantastic sports cars and, when it comes to F1, no one messes with it. Neither does the International Automobile Federation (FIA), as the Italian brand has almost as much weight as the F1 itself. Hence, even when the team created by Enzo Ferrari is caught to prevaricate, that is, to slightly abuse the rules, the legislator intervenes, but in a substantially more moderate way.
This comes with regard to the 2019 F1 world championship, during which there was a period when the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel - with the first one putting the second through the embarrassment of being beaten in training and racing for his young colleague and newcomer to the team - they won three consecutive races. At the time, opponents suspected that the Italians used a creative way to trick the fuel consumption sensor, allowing the engine to spend more and deliver more power.
At the end of September, after Verstappen (Team Red Bull) directly accused Ferrari of scam, in which he was seconded by the Mercedes team, the FIA collected a series of Italian F1 pieces for analysis, to decide whether the Transalpine technicians were circumvent the regulation and, if so, whether they were doing it legally. It turns out that, after four months of analyzing the pieces, the FIA finally goes public with a conclusion that raises more doubts than it advances with clarifications.
The regulator says that “after the technical investigations, the FIA concluded the analysis of the Scuderia Ferrari Formula 1 driving unit and reached an agreement with the team”. However, despite this statement, the reality is that Ferrari cars lost much of their top speed (a direct consequence of greater power) as soon as the chorus of criticism from opponents arose, as well as the seizure of Ferrari car parts for analysis. .
This means that the FIA actually found something that was not correct. But then, instead of making his conclusions public, to make it clear what was the problematic change made by the team and to ensure that everyone learned from the mistake, he reached an agreement that only the parties involved are aware. Raising protectionism to Ferrari to something ridiculous, due to the secrecy involved, the FIA goes further and claims to have reached an agreement with the brand "to increase the monitoring of all F1 driving units for the next championships". However, not a word about the topic to competitors, let alone to the public. Without which there is no F1.
