VW
Russian sedan Polo that is not sedan
A few days after launching a teaser, Volkswagen fully introduced the new Polo Sedan to the Russian market. It should occupy a segment similar to that of the VW Virtus in Brazil, but using the brand's PQ-25 platform, not the more modern MQB. However, what draws the most attention is that this Polo Sedan is neither a sedan nor a Volkswagen itself.
The model will be offered with a liftback body, where, despite the silhouette resembling a sedan, the opening of the trunk lid occurs as in a hatchback, along with the glass. Thus, the Polo Sedan is effectively a five-door model, including a rear wiper, an unusual part of sedans.
Furthermore, the Russian Polo Sedan does not exactly have a VW platform, as it is a slightly modified version of the Skoda Rapid. That is why he will adopt this unusual solution for the rear. Skoda is also part of the VW Group. It is worth remembering that, in Europe, liftback cars are even common, with models such as the Chevrolet Vectra (sold there as an Opel) and Ford Mondeo even offered such a solution.
There will be four version options: Origin, Respect, Status and Exclusive. In terms of engine, the 1.6 MSI 16V aspirated is available, offering 90 hp or 110 hp, and the turbocharged 1.4 TSI of 125 hp. In the basic versions, the transmission is always a five-speed manual, while the intermediate ones already have the option for the six-speed automatic transmission. The seven-speed automated double-clutch DSG transmission is always equipped together with the most powerful engine.
