RENAULT

Renewed Mégane line... and plug in

Sedan, Sport Tourer, RS Line, RS and RS Trophy - Renault has carried out a renovation on the entire Mégane range, which will reach dealers already next summer, with updates on safety, connectivity and, even more relevant, with a new 160 hp plug-in hybrid engine (PHEV).
Called E-TECH Plug-in, the new powerplant combines the new generation of the four-cylinder petrol engine 1.6 with two electric motors powered by a 9.8 kWh battery. According to the brand, this engine not only benefits from the know-how acquired by Renault's involvement in Formula 1, namely in the efficiency of energy regeneration, but also involved the registration of more than 150 patents.

One of the most important innovations is found in the multimode gearbox, such as the one that will equip the new Captur PHEV that arrives in Portugal in June. The transmission integrates three mechanical and two electric speeds, offering greater efficiency in terms of efficiency as it does not have a clutch. With this option, the brand's engineers were able to optimize the power and lower consumption, while the connection of the box to the less powerful electrical unit ensures the desirable synchronism, which should translate to a more fluid use, with capable box passages. to go unnoticed.

Like Captur, the E-TECH Plug-in version of the renovated Mégane always uses the electric motor at start-up, to reduce consumption and emissions, and announces the ability to cover 50 km in a mixed cycle or up to 65 km in an urban cycle (values still in the process of homologation in WLTP), without resorting to the 1.6 atmospheric with Atkinson cycle. The arrival in our country will coincide with the launch of the Sport Tourer van in the summer, followed by the saloon.
In addition, the rest of the new features in this update in the middle of the product's life cycle are essentially technological. Namely with the inclusion of the new 10.2 ”digital instrument panel and the new Easy Link 9.3” multimedia system, as is the case with Clio, Captur and Zoe. In the field of driving aids, the highlight is the Road and Highway Assistance System. It should also be noted that new Pure Vision LED projectors are now available and the previous line of GT Line equipment disappears. In its place comes the R.S. Line range, which maintains the target audience, by distinguishing itself by a more sporty image.
