DAKAR 2020
Stage 5-Trucks: KAMAZ supplants MAZ
On a day when Dmitry Sotnikov (Kamaz) achieved his first victory this year on the Dakar, Andrey Karginov (Kamaz) remains the leader of the race in the trucks, having today expanded the margin against the second ranked, who is now his teammate at Kamaz, Anton Shibalov.
The Russian is 14.53 seconds away from the leader, with Siarhei Viazovich (Maz) falling to third place, now 23.58 seconds away.
In today's stage there were three Kamaz in the top three, in the overall standings, in the podium there are two Kamaz and one Maz.
At the start of today, Karginov, Viazovich and Shibalov resumed their battle at three and after 50 km, were separated by only 14 seconds. At Km 152, Anton Shibalov led the stage, 30 seconds ahead of Andrey Karginov. Shortly thereafter, confirmation of a bad Dakar for Eduard Nikolaev, as he was again in trouble. This is definitely not your Dakar, as it stood at km 163 of the stage, due to a mechanical problem, which took almost three hours to repair.
ONBOARD BENEDIKTAS VANAGAS/FILIPE PALMEIRO
Filipe Palmeiro, who runs alongside the Lithuanian Benediktas Vanagas, on a Toyota, had a cautious start from Dakar. The duo finished their second day in the 15th overall position, still far from their goal, to improve the 11th place their driver made in 2019, where they were only ... 5 seconds from the top 10. On the third day, Benediktas Vanagas / Filipe Palmeiro, rose to 14th, scored three more positions yesterday, to 11th, and one more position, for the top 10 today. See how’ lives ' the Dakar inside, with onboard part of the first three stages.
