DAKAR 2020
Ricky Brabec makes history and wins the 2020 Dakar against Pablo Quintanilla and Toby Price
American Ricky Brabec is already the winner of the 2020 edition of the Dakar, the first to be held in Saudi Arabia. With his victory ends the streak of KTM –that he had won the last 18 in succession-returns Honda to the top for the first time since 1989 and became the first rider from his country to win the rally world's most famous.
The second final position has been for the Chilean Pablo Quintanilla, who in this way gets the best place in the history of Chile and in the history of Husqvarna, surpassing the third place he achieved in 2016. Third has been the former champion, Australian Toby Price, who adds his fifth podium finish to six appearances. For the first time in history, there is no European pilot on the final podium.
Pablo Quintanilla has finished second on the Dakar 2020.
The Chilean Nacho Cornejo, who took the fourth position from the Austrian Matthias Walkner in the only variation that has occurred within the top 16, has remained at the gates of the cajón. After them has concluded the Argentine Luciano Benavides, sixth.
The best Spaniard in the final general classification has been Joan Barreda, seventh to 50 minutes from his teammate, with Jaume Betriu in the 14th place standing as Best rookie of the year. Joan Pedrero has been 16th and Laia Sanz 18th, finishing his tenth consecutive Dakar and winning in all of them the female category. Fausto Mota has stayed at the gates of the top 30.
STAGE FOR CORNEJO
The last stage of the Dakar 2020, with the special shortened to 167 kilometers by works on a gas pipeline, has been for the Chilean Nacho Cornejo, who has thus brought the total party to Honda. It is his second stage win in the present Dakar, and he has achieved it after a hand-in-hand with Ricky Brabec himself: in the first waypoint Cornejo led for five seconds, but in the second it was Brabec who put first with 18 seconds rent.
However, in the final part Brabec chose to be somewhat more conservative and Nacho Cornejo pressed to cover the special in 1 hour, 28 minutes and 15 seconds, leading Ricky Brabec in 53 seconds to finish Honda's dream Dakar with a partial double and final win.
The third place in the leg has been for Toby Price(image above) almost two and a half minutes from Cornejo, with Luciano Benavides and Pablo Quintanilla completing the top 5 in front of Adrien Metge and Kevin Benavides, the latter two at the same time. In just over four minutes Franco Caimi, Maciej Giemza and Andrew Short have finished.
Toby Price completes the Dakar 2020 podium.
The best Spaniard in the stage was Joan Barreda in the 16th position more than six minutes from his partner and just ahead of his compatriot Joan Pedrero, with Jaume Betriu in the 19th place and Laia Sanz 25th to sign his full ten consecutive victories in the female category.
