Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi will share electric platform
Nissan was one of the pioneers in the manufacture of 100% electric cars in high volumes. A feat that was repeated among light commercials with the NV200 electric van. Now, together with the other brands of the alliance, Renault and Mitsubishi, it is working on a new electric propulsion platform.
With the new architecture, it is intended that each brand of the alliance will start offering its own electrified products, including Infiniti, Nissan's luxury sub-brand that has its largest buyer market in the USA. According to the Green Car Reports website, the new platform should be much more flexible than the current ones, to accommodate different types of different models for each brand.
With the SUV market on the rise, the first car to be made with this new architecture is expected to be an SUV based on the Ariya concept. The model, although still just a design study by Nissan, has already been designed with the use of the new electric platform in mind.
The first product to come from the combination of the Ariya concept and the new electrical architecture of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance is expected to be an unprecedented crossover that will arrive on the market as an alternative to the current Leaf, having as differentials a higher position to drive and a little more internal space.
